Sail and Work Experience
Jaan joined the sailing world from the age of 10, gaining his first experiences through windsurfing and taking part the 420 & 470 Junior European Championships. Becoming a professional sailor in 2001, he now has over 300,000 NM to his name, navigating regions all over the world including the Red Sea, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic. Jaan has captained a number of vessels such as the 52m S/Y AMANDIRA where he headed 16 crew as well as the S/Y TAJ where he sailed in both the Mediterranean and the Caribbean and did two Atlantic crossings. He has also gained experience working as an engineer for S/Y CILIAM and a sail master aboard S/Y AMANDIRA. Jaan’s love for the water is not restricted to sailing as he is also passionate for surfing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, and diving. He describes himself as dynamic and friendly, hoping to share his knowledge and skills on all his nautical adventures.
Job Description
Jaan is responsible for navigation, safety, the overall running and financial
management of the vessel, crew, and guests. He always ensures the safe and efficient
operation of KALLIMA, including compliance with all procedures and regulations
that keep our guests safe. He takes care of adhering to flag regulations, port state and
local laws and regulations, and manages the crew to ensure adherence to, and a full
understanding of the vessel’s policies. He further encourages teamwork, individual
growth, and personal attention in delegating duties and supervising all crew tasks
